10 January 2012 – A total of 54 representatives of intellectual property agents, members of Malaysian Intellectual Property Association (MIPA) and Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) had attended the briefing on Industrial Design Regulations (Amendment 2012) organized by MyIPO.

The main area of the amendment is on the fee restructuring, electronic filing, filing form and procedures. New fees shall apply to the new application for registration and proceeding related to the new application filed on and/or after the enforcement date of the amendment. Among the amendments are the amendment on the medium of communication and number of required representation from six copies to one copy.

Industrial design new fee restructuring has introduced two new fees which are manual and electronic filing fee. A lower rate of fee is imposed for the electronic filing compared to manual filing. This is in order to encourage the filing through IP Online System.
