NATIONAL SEMINAR ON BRANDING AND THE MADRID SYSTEM FOR THE INTERNATIONAL REGISTRATION OF MARK
4 November 2019 – Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs officiated the National Seminar on Branding and the Madrid System for the International Registration of Mark today in Georgetown, Penang.
The seminar gathered more than 150 local entrepreneurs, IP practitioners and representatives from various Government agencies to share the new scopes in Trademarks Bill 2019 which will replace the Trade Marks Act 1976. The participants were also exposed to the Madrid System, a global trademark registration system which enables trademark owners to obtain protection in several countries by means of a single international application. TRAINING ON THE ASEAN COMMON GUIDELINES ON THE EXAMINATIONS OF INDUSTRIAL DESIGNS
29 October 2019 – MyIPO hosted the training course for ASEAN design examiners on the ASEAN Common Guidelines on the Examination and Registration of Industrial Designs which was organized by European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) under the framework of ARISE+ IPR.
The main purpose of the Common Guidelines is to improve the quality, consistency and transparency of the design registration process across the ASEAN region. (more)
MALAYSIA ACCEDES TO MADRID PROTOCOL
GENEVA, 27 September 2019 – Malaysia becomes the 106th member of the Madrid Protocol System upon depositing the instrument of accession of the Protocol relating to the Madrid Agreement concerning the International Registration of Marks with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) today. The instrument of accession which was signed by the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, was handed over by the Secretary General of Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Muez Abdul Aziz, to the Director General of WIPO, Francis Gurry. The Director General of Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO),Dato’ Mohd Roslan Mahayudin, was also present during the ceremony. The Protocol will enter into force in Malaysia on 27 December 2019. (more)
CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP ON GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATIONS
25 September 2019 – The Capacity Building Workshop on Geographical Indications (GI) was specially designed for GI producers and associations to learn the drafting of GI Book of Specification as well as to share few thoughts on the roles, functions and business model of GI associations in protecting and promoting GI, as well as the GI Protection and Promotion in the European Union.
The workshop was facilitated by Mr.Denis Sautier, Senior Agri-food Economist of CIRAD and Mr.Ryzul Osman Basah, Senior Assistant IP Officer to give hands-on approach, interactive and focus exposure to all the participants. (more)
CONFERENCE ON THE COLLECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF COPYRIGHT AND RELATED RIGHTS IN SOUTH-EAST ASIA
18 September 2019 – European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) under the IP Key South-East Asia organized the Conference on the Collective Management of Copyright and Related Rights in South-East Asia in co-operation with Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO).
The conference aimed to promote the exchange of best practices in the operations of Collective Management Organizations (CMOs) including in the aspect of transparency, accountability and good governance.
STAKEHOLDER CONSULTATION MEETING
23 August 2019 – MyIPO hosted the Stakeholder Consultation Meeting to hear the views of IP stakeholders about amending the Patent Act 1983.
The meeting was attended by 45 representatives from various Ministries, government agencies and universities.
Mr.Kamal Kormin, Assistant Director General (Technical, Science and Technology) of MyIPO thanked the participants for their thoughtful contributions to enhance IP ecosystem in Malaysia.
EUMCCI "IN CONVERSATION WITH" SERIES - SAFEGUARDING CREATIVITY: EMPOWERING SCIENCE & INNOVATION IN MALAYSIA
31st July 2019 – EUMCCI “In Conversation With” series – Safeguarding Creativity: Empowering Science & Innovation in Malaysia was organized by EU-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce & Industry in collaboration with the Italian Malaysian Business Association (IMBA) With keynote address by YBhg Dato’ Mohd Roslan bin Mahayudin, Director General of Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO).
In his address, Dato’ Mohd Roslan underlined six initiatives in safeguarding the innovation chain in Malaysia through new developments in IPR protection. “Malaysia is a signatory of the Berne Convention which entails international copyright protection and the Paris Convention which covers patents, trademarks, industrial designs, utility models, service marks, trade names, and geographical indications. 16 July 2019 – MyIPO received the courtesy visit from Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM). The delegation was led by Dr. Helena Eian, Chairman of FMM Branding & Intellectual Property Committee, and joined by five other members.
The visit provides an opportunity for both sides to discuss ongoing efforts and new initiatives to further strengthen the cordial relationship and cooperation particularly in the areas of Border Measures Procedures.
NATIONAL WORKSHOP III ON IP-BASED INNOVATION AND IP MANAGEMENT IN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE ENABLING IP ENVIRONMENT (EIE) PROJECT
8 July 2019 – MyIPO hosted the National Workshop III on IP-Based Innovation and IP Management in the Framework of the Enabling IP Environment (EIE) Project which was organized by World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) with the assistance of the Japan Patent Office (JPO).
The objectives of the workshop are to continue the discussions on IP-based technology transfer and commercialization process, dynamics and nuances of conducting technology characterization, triage, protection strategy, marketing and licensing with university technology transfer offices. (more)
