NATIONAL SEMINAR ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE MARRAKESH TREATY

28 August 2018 – MyIPO in collaboration with World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) has organized the National Seminar on the Implementation of the Marrakech Treaty.

The national seminar was organized to broaden the understanding on key issues concerning the Marrakesh Treaty, as a preparation for Malaysia to accede the Treaty.

Mr.Azahar Razab, Assistant Director General of MyIPO in his speech said “ensuring that visually impaired persons have sustainable access to published works on the same terms as sighted persons is an important milestone toward realizing the vision of a world towards inclusivity, in which all persons can participate fully and equally in the political, economic, and cultural life of society”.

Malaysia is committed to accede to the Marrakesh Treaty, which clearly endowed a humanitarian and social development dimension. Acceding to the Marrakesh Treaty will complement Malaysia’s commitment to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in promoting and protecting human rights of persons with disabilities.
