NATIONAL WORKSHOP III ON IP-BASED INNOVATION AND IP MANAGEMENT IN THE FRAMEWORK OF EIE PROJECT
8 July 2019 – MyIPO hosted the National Workshop III on IP-Based Innovation and IP Management in the Framework of the Enabling IP Environment (EIE) Project which was organized by World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) with the assistance of the Japan Patent Office (JPO).
The objectives of the workshop are to continue the discussions on IP-based technology transfer and commercialization process, dynamics and nuances of conducting technology characterization, triage, protection strategy, marketing and licensing with university technology transfer offices.
Puan Fatimah Rohada Dahlan, Assistant Director General (Planning & Business Development) who officiated the national workshop on behalf of Dato’ Mohd Roslan Mahayudin, Director General of MyIPO shared the statistic of patent applications from universities and research institutes which account for 43% of the total Malaysia domestic filing. It also accounts for 61% of the total domestic granted patents in year 2017. This shows that universities and research institutes are the powerful drivers of innovations and change in science and technology.
The three-day workshop was participated by local Spokes and Technology and Innovation Support Centres (TISC) and was joined by industry experts and representatives on the last day of the workshop. The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Davis Simmons, Counsellor of Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific (ASPAC),Ms. Yumiko Hamano, IP Consultant and Partner, ET Cube International, Mr. John Fraser, President of Burnside Development & Associates, Mr. Andrew Sierakowski, Director of Levey Rise Investment Pty and Mr. Ashley J.Stevens, President of Focus IP Group LLC.
