30 January 2019 – Dato ‘Mohd Roslan Mahayudin emphasized the importance of brand registration in expanding businesses at the JIWA SME Conference 2019 today.

The Director General of MyIPO notes that brand registration at MyIPO will grant exclusive rights to its owners.

“The trademark owner who registered their trade mark at MyIPO may take legal action against those who infringe their trademark. They also may seek cooperation from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumerism (KPDNHEP) to seizure the counterfeit goods.”

Dato ‘Mohd Roslan said the price paid for brand registration is not a cost, but it is actually an investment. “By registering the brand at the early stage on the business, it can bring huge returns to brand owners after various efforts to promote the brand”.

He also shared example of businesses that have gained high position in the market through the exploitation of intellectual property.
