MESYUARAT PERSEDIAAN DIPLOMATIC CONFERENCE TO CONCLUDE AN INTERNATIONAL LEGAL INSTRUMENT RELATING TO INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, GENETIC RESOURCES AND TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE ASSOCIATED WITH GENETIC RESOURCES


22 Februari 2024 – Telah berlangsung mesyuarat persediaan bagi menghadiri persidangan diplomatik untuk memuktamadkan instrumen perundangan antarabangsa berkenaan harta intelek dan sumber genetik berkaitan pengetahuan tradisional. Mesyuarat ini telah dipengerusikan oleh YBrs. Tuan Kamal Kormin, Ketua Pengarah MyIPO dan dihadiri oleh wakil-wakil daripada Kementerian dan Jabatan yang berkaitan.
Tujuan utama mesyuarat persediaan ini adalah untuk membincangkan pendirian Malaysia dalam isu ini serta untuk membincangkan draf teks perundangan yang berkaitan dengan perlindungan sumber genetik yang turut melibatkan pengetahuan tradisional. Diharapkan melalui mesyuarat ini, Malaysia dapat memainkan peranan yang aktif dalam proses pembentukan undang-undang antarabangsa yang berkaitan dengan harta intelek dan sumber genetik, serta memastikan kepentingan dan hak Malaysia di dalamnya.
Turut hadir, YBhg. Prof. Madya Rohazar Wati Zuallcobley, Profesor Madya Fakulti Undang-Undang Universiti Teknologi MARA merangkap Pengerusi Tribunal Hak Cipta; dan Timbalan Ketua Pengarah (Strategik & Teknikal), Puan Yusnieza Syarmila Yusoff.

PREPARATORY MEETING FOR THE DIPLOMATIC CONFERENCE TO CONCLUDE AN INTERNATIONAL LEGAL INSTRUMENT RELATING TO INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, GENETIC RESOURCES AND TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE ASSOCIATED WITH GENETIC RESOURCES


22 February 2024 – A preparatory meeting was held in anticipation of the diplomatic conference aimed at concluding an international legal instrument regarding intellectual property, genetic resources, and traditional knowledge linked to genetic resources. Chaired by Mr. Kamal Kormin, Director General of MyIPO, the meeting was attended by representatives from relevant Ministries and Departments.
The main purpose of this preparatory meeting was to deliberate Malaysia’s position on this matter and to discuss draft legislative texts concerning the protection of genetic resources, including traditional knowledge. Through this meeting, Malaysia seeks to actively engage in shaping international legislation concerning intellectual property and genetic resources, ensuring the preservation of Malaysia’s interests and rights within this framework.
Also present was Associate Professor Rohazar Wati Zuallcobley, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Law at Universiti Teknologi MARA and Chairman of the Copyright Tribunal; and the Deputy Director General (Strategic & Technical), Ms. Yusnieza Syarmila Yusoff.
