2. MyIPO, EUROPEAN PATENT OFFICE AND JAPAN PATENT OFFICE SIGN MoU TO PURSUE COLLABORATION ON IP SYSTEMS AND PRACTICES
23 June 2022 – MyIPO hosted the National Seminar on IP and Gastronomic Tourism in Malaysia which was organized by World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO).
This seminar which was a part of WIPO’s project titled “Promoting the Development of Gastronomic Tourism through Intellectual Property (IP)” aims at boosting economic growth by enhancing the added value of the gastronomic tourism sector. Its overall purpose is to promote intellectual property related to culinary traditions for use in the gastronomic tourism sector.
Gastronomic tourism products are now seen as valuable means of attracting tourists from all over the world to visit Malaysia. Culinary products and services can be protected under trademarks, certification marks, collective marks, geographical indications, copyright, trade secrets and other IP components, said Director General of MyIPO, Mr Abdul Haris bin Haji Lakar.
The seminar was joined by representatives from the ministries, industry players and entrepreneurs. Among the speakers presented were Prof. Rohazar Wati Zuallcobley, Associate Professor Law, Universiti Teknologi Mara, Prof. Giulio Zanetti, Consultant of WIPO, Puan Junaidah binti Salleh, Head of Customs and Culture Branch, Department of National Heritage, Dato’ Chef Haji Ismail, CEO of Restoran Rebung and Dr Mohd Rizal, CEO of Nasi Lemak Saleha.
