RECOGNITION OF INVENTORS AT NATIONAL INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AWARDS
18 July 2017 – The National Intellectual Property Awards 2017 was organized for its 12th year here in Bangsar. The event was officiated by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism, Dato’ Seri Jamil bin Salleh on behalf of YB Minister of KPDNKK.
He said at the opening of the event that MyIPO in cooperation with World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will implement the “Enabling IP Environment Project in Malaysia” with the primary purpose to establish the conditions and structure for a process that creates inventions and converts the inventions into economic development.
The event, themed “Intellectual Property Improving People’s Life” saw the participation of 518 universities, high schools and individuals as well as public and private sectors. National Intellectual Property Award 2016 was held to recognize the creators and innovators of the best countries and organizations that are actively involved in the development, commercialization and management of intellectual property.
MyIPO has introduced three new categories namely Special Award for Intellectual Property of Cooperative Sector, Special Award of the Minister of Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry and the Special Award for Innovation of Secondary School. The winners of each category received cash prize, trophy and certificate of appreciation recognised by World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Also present at the opening ceremony was the Chairman of Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) Dato’ Sri Haji Abdul Manan Ismail, and MyIPO Director-General, Dato’ Shamsiah Kamaruddin.
