SUB-REGIONAL MEETING OF THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OFFICE OFFICIALS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MADRID SYSTEM


4 February 2020 – Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP), Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution officiated the Sub-Regional Meeting of the Intellectual Property Office Officials Responsible for the Madrid System.

This meeting is a platform to strengthen the capacity of IP offices and to improve operations of the Madrid System in the contracting parties, to enhance the knowledge of the operations and to encourage the accession to the Madrid System for non-contracting parties.

Director of the Madrid Division of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Mr. Chen Hongbing, highlighted that Malaysia has received more than 400 trademark applications in just 4 weeks after its accession on 27th December 2019, which shows Malaysia’s attractiveness and vitality in the international market.

Meanwhile, Specialist for Trademark Planning, Trademark Division of Japan Patent Office (JPO), Mr. Takahito Naito congratulate all countries who have come on board for the Madrid System.

24 officials from IP offices of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Lao PDR, Mongolia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Filipina, Samoa, Singapura, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam have participated in this three-day meeting.
