27 September 2016 MyIPO had successfully hosted the Regional Workshop on Basic Patent Analytics using the Guidelines for Preparing Patent Landscape Reports and the Manual on Free and Open Source Tools for Patent Analytics. The workshop was fully supported by World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and Japan Patent Office (JPO).

The three-day workshop provides a platform for participants to do practical exercise of obtaining patent data from PatentScope, Lens and Espacenet as well as analyzing and sharing of data using Gephi in which these tools are free and available to all.

Minister of Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism, YB Dato’ Seri Hamzah Zainudin who officiated the regional workshop encouraged small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to learn about patent analytics. He said SMEs may find Patent Landscape Reports a great value for their strategic business planning as it would help them to forecast market trends and to keep abreast with the latest technologies.

The regional workshop which was held at IP Academy of MyIPO was participated by 11 representatives from ASEAN countries namely Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and Philippines. It was also joined by 18 representatives of TISC Host Institutions of Malaysia.
